Jung specifies four functional complexes as central to understanding the psyche: the Persona, the Ego, The Shadow, and the Anima/Animus. As complexes, they all have archetypal cores that have tremendous psychic energy behind them coming from the collective unconscious. Of the four complexes, the Persona is the one most people believe they immediately understand because it appears to be obvious. In fact, we rarely get the take on the Persona that it deserves. This lecture will go into depth about the problems surrounding the Persona, and will provide a psychological perspective on the unprecedented value placed on the Persona in contemporary culture.
