The Structure & Dynamics of the Psyche

Collected Works Volume 8

Jung once stated that all psychological models are confessions of the individuals who developed them. Today, there are 400 models in psychology. Is Jung saying that all models are limited by the subject confessing his or her own “truth?” Is there no Truth, capital T?

Yes and No. The subjective factor has always been acknowledged in Analytical Psychology, with this caveat: one must go deep enough with one’s inner work to transcend the ego, the I, that is determined to make everything conform to its way of being. Another way of saying this, the individuation process is greater than the individualism of the ego.

In this lecture, we will examine the structure and dynamics of the Jungian psyche, and highlight its distinctive, descriptive, and explanatory power.

We will see where Jung locates psychological problems, how they arise, capture and distort consciousness, trap us in endless and painful mental and emotional “loops,” and we will look at what goes into healing, from a Jungian perspective.
